When it comes to queerness, Nepal is still a blossoming country. It seems that people are becoming more open to the idea of learning about queer culture and unlearning years of underlying and overlying homophobia. Amongst all the growth, there are communities within ourselves that can easily be overshadowed under this proverbial umbrella. We as artists, and as people of the queer community, want to use our shared queer experience and our artistic expression to shine a spotlight on one such community. Gender-fluidity.
The show is divided into two segments, Nepal’s first Fashion Exhibition and an Art Exhibition from two different queer artists with two different art forms.
Sileyaka Sapana is going to be the first Nepali fashion exhibition where a queer artist is going to be showcasing their collection based on gender fluidity and gender dysphoria. This exhibition will not only be one of the first of its kind but also a movement, a history, and an achievement to not only the artist but an entire queer community.
The proposed exhibition aims to explore the fluid nature of gender identity and the experiences of individuals who identify as gender fluid and struggle with gender dysphoria. By showcasing a diverse range of fashion pieces and artistic installations, we seek to raise awareness, spark conversations, and encourage dialogue surrounding these important topics.
