About the Gehendra Dhimal Foundation

Our Story & Legacy

The Gehendra Dhimal Foundation (GDF) is all about giving back to society. Established in 2020, the foundation works with a clear purpose: not only to contribute in kind, but also to empower communities through art, education, and culture.

We were created to honor Gehendra Dhimal, a man who put others before himself. With over five decades of work in the film industry, he was celebrated not only for his professional achievements but also for his humility and his willingness to reach out to those in need. The foundation continues his legacy — carrying forward his vision of making the world a better place through art, creativity, and compassion.

Gehendra Dhimal

There are a few examples of people who have actually gone on to pursue their passion and transformed it into a flourishing career. Gehendra Dhimal for definite is one among them. Born into a middle-class family it was difficult for Dhimal to convince people around him that he would make a career out of films but like they say where there is a will there is always a way.

With this desire in his heart, Dhimal joined the Indian film industry as production assistant in 1960 and over the years worked in various Nepali and Indian films in various capacities. He was involved in some of the history-making Nepali films like Maiti Ghar, Kancchi and Saino to name just a few. Similarly, he also rendered services to Indian films like Khuda Gawah, Mahaan, Johny Mera Naam and Hare Ram Hare Krishna that were shot in Nepal.

A Life of Dedication

For his contribution to the film and art sector, Dhimal was bestowed on with several letters of appreciation from various film making organisations and companies across the world. He was also feted with various awards like the 'Nepal Film Artists Association Award – 2056' for his remarkable contribution to the Nepali film industry and 'Nepal Film Technicians Association Award – 2060'.

Dhimal has also been honoured with the Life Time Achievement Award by the Nepal Film Technicians Association for his services to the Nepali film industry for more than four decades.

His story inspires everything we do today — proof that passion and perseverance can transform lives and industries.
