Short Film Script Competition

Before entering the competition, please read the following rules and guidelines. Submissions that do not adhere to the regulations set out below may be disqualified.

  1. Director/Writer must be a citizen of Nepal.

  2. Entries can be in Nepali and English, with entry fees of NPR 1000.

  3. For indigenous categories, the script has to be in the indigenous language, and translation in Nepali or English has to be included in the script while submission, with entry fees of NPR 1000

  4. Scripts must be the original work of the writer(s), where the writer(s) must have full legal ownership of the material and be allowed to enter the competition.

  5. To ensure anonymity, scripts must be submitted without the writer(s) name on the cover page. Cover page should include only the title of the script.

  6. The winning film must comply that crew and cast member should be as inclusive as possible.

  7. There is no limit to the number of simultaneous script entries allowed, by a single author. Each entry however, is a separate fee.

  8. Resubmissions of material is allowed, but requires a separate fee.

  9. All submissions are electronic submissions only.

  10. Short films should not exceed 40 pages/ 20 mins including intro and end credits.

  11. All entries are non-refundable, once submitted. Gehendra Dhimal Foundations employees and immediate family members are ineligible to enter the competition.

  12. Feedback is not issued.

  13. All entries must be uploaded in PDF format, and adhere to industry-standard formatting (Courier font, size 12).

  14. Co-writers are allowed. Each writer’s name should be entered at the time of submission.

  15. All deadlines listed are at 11:59 pm NPT, without exception.

  16. Decisions of the winning scripts, made by the judges are final.

  17. All prizes are awarded to scripts. Where scripts are submitted to writing teams, it is the responsibility of the team to divide the prizes amongst themselves.

  18. By submitting to the competition, winners and finalists agree to have their name, script title, and pictures used for marketing purposes or promotions by Gehendra Dhimal Foundation and its affiliates. Also, the short film will be provided for charity events or similar kinds of events for the foundation.

  19. Gehendra Dhimal Foundation asserts no ownership of submitted entries, nor any option on this material. All ownership and rights to such material remain with the original rights holder(s).

  20. By entering this competition, the submitter must have full permission to do so from any and all co-writers and attachments to the script.

  21. By entering the competition, the writer/director/submitter acknowledges that Gehendra Dhimal Foundations will be credited in the short films as “ in association with” or a similar title.

  22. The production house i.e., collaborator or partner of the competition has to be credited in the film, and a representative of the production house will be credited as Producer or Co-producer and company the director to the film festival and awards if nominated.

  23. The winning short film has to be produced, completed, and submitted by 30th Nov 2024. If unable to do so then the applicant will be held responsible for the cost endured.
